Position: Inpatient Coder

Job Summary:


The Inpatient Coder is responsible for accurately coding and abstracting medical records for inpatient services using ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 codes. The Inpatient Coder will review and analyze patient records for completeness and accuracy, assign appropriate codes, and abstract pertinent data for medical records and billing purposes. The Inpatient Coder will also provide support to the clinical staff and handle coding related queries.


Responsibilities:


• Review medical records to ensure accurate coding of diagnoses and procedures


• Code inpatient medical records using ICD-10-CM and CPT-4


• Abstract relevant information into computer system for medical records and billing purposes


• Monitor coding trends and offer feedback to ensure accuracy and compliance


• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding guidelines and regulations


• Provide assistance and support to clinical staff with coding related queries


• Participate in coding in-services and continuing education programs


• Perform other duties as assigned


Requirements:


• Minimum of 2 years of inpatient coding experience


• Current coding certification (such as CCS, CPC, or COC)


• Proficient with ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding


• Highly proficient in written and verbal communication


• Ability to work independently and as part of a team


• High level of attention to detail and accuracy


• Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills


• Knowledge of coding regulations and guidelines
